Higher-income Tucsonans previously had to travel to the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, or out-of-state, to patronize this caliber of retail. Phase II established the center as the premier shopping destination in the Tucson area, landing a score of first luxury stores for the region, including BCBG Max Azria, Brooks Brothers, Brooks Brothers Country Club, Louis Vuitton, Sigrid Olsen, St. The first phase opened with AJ's Fine Foods, Ann Taylor, Anthropologie, Apple Store, Coach, Cole Haan, Crate & Barrel, Lucky Brand Jeans, and Pottery Barn. By 2003, more than 80% of the center was leased. The center was designed with a Spanish, hacienda style and construction began in 2002. With the successful Kierland Commons in Phoenix as an example, Westcor hoped to recreate the same success in Tucson. La Encantada began in planning stages in early 1998. It opened in 2003 as the only luxury shopping center in the Tucson region. It is owned by Town West, and was owned by Macerich until September 2021. La Encantada is an upscale, outdoor shopping mall located in Catalina Foothills, an unincorporated suburb of Tucson, Arizona, United States. Shops include Anthropologie, Apple, Crate & Barrel, Free. Visit us for luxury brands and specialty shops, popular restaurants and bars, gourmet groceries, seasonal events, and exquisite mountain views. Check La Encantada website for art events, and the second Saturday of every month is the car show in the parking lot in the morning. Not to be confused with La Encantadora. We are Tucson, Arizona’s premier open-air shopping center located in the breathtaking Catalina Foothills. The restrooms are on upper level near Tiffany's and are clean, with soap and paper towels. Go before sunset for a fabulous view on the second floor balcony area - spectacular city lights and mountain sunset views! It is a go to place for lunch at North then walking around. You can spend a short amount of time here and be focused and task oriented or a few leisirely hours. After AJ's we walk around the outdoor mall for window shopping, actual shopping (I need kitchen towels from William's Sonoma and some cosmetics from Blue Mercury - yeah Chanel products! and Tiffany's for some perfume), a bit of exercise and fresh air. ![]() The patio at AJ's is very nice and there is a fireplace that is welcoming. First stop is AJ's for coffee or iced tea and sometimes a pastry or ready prepared meal. La Encantada is my go to place with friends year round. Sad to see that Papyrus has closed, and now, there is a Candle Shop in its place. This store is an important addition to the locales of Mount Lemmon, La Paloma Estates and Westin La Paloma Resort. We still had a nice stroll, and a lovely lunch. You can find Apple Store in La Encantada at 2905 East Skyline Drive, in the north section of Tucson (not far from Manzanita Elementary School). Just felt very unfriendly, foreboding, and, actually, more unsafe than elsewhere. ![]() But, these other stores, with not one customer inside, demanding masks, is something else. ![]() I can understand the Apple Store, as there were about 30-40 people packed inside, and social distancing was not possible. In fact, we live in Pima County, and we can shop every store in our area, and at the indoor Park Place Mall without being ordered to wear a mask. Hard to understand why Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma were not following "the law", as they had their doors wide open (on this beautiful day), and no such requirements. One stated that Pima County Law mandated that everyone wear a mask in an indoor area. At La Encantada, shop after shop had an unfriendly "No Mask, No Entry" sign on their door or window. I guess we should have gone to the indoor Park Place Mall, if we were looking for "pleasant". As it is such a pleasant outdoor mall, it is nice strolling in that atmosphere. La Encantada is about an hour's drive for us, but yesterday (2/12) was such a gorgeous day, that we decided to drive over there. Everything seemed to be returning to normal, as the pandemic is, definitely, winding down. We have been to the Park Place Mall twice recently, and even, went to the movies there.
